Hello!

Welcome to our blog!

My name is Ali Anderson-Dyer and I'm the Artistic Director of The Bunbury Banter Theatre Company.

We produce fearlessly responsive and entertaining high quality theatre and we're based in the beautiful wilds of Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland.

Bunbanter (as it is called - well, it's quite a long name, isn't it?!) was born from a desire to make high quality arts accessible to all and as part of our work towards doing that, we look to create opportunities for young people with every project and production we create.

This year, with the generous support of our partners at the Theatre Royal, Dumfries and funded by the fantastic Holywood Trust, we have launched a Young Playwright Programme for writers aged 16-25years from across our region.

Bunbanter's Young Playwrights Programme will run over the course of a year, starting in November 2019 and finishing in November 2020 with a closed-door performance for an industry invite only audience.
It involves regular group sessions and workshops with established industry creatives, with individual support from the company between these, as the playwrights begin to develop and experiment.
The young people involved will also read plays and go to see theatre and regular gatherings with myself and our team at Bunbanter.

Our Young Playwrights Programme is being set up with the following aims:

1. To inspire, nourish and develop those involved, to build their confidence and skills, encourage them to explore new ideas and offer them the experience of collaborating and developing their work supported by theatre creatives from across the UK.

2. To cultivate new writing and the plays which are professionally producible and that stem from unknown or lesser-heard young voices, resident across Dumfries & Galloway.

3. To advocate for these voices, introducing them to the industry by semi-staging their work with professional casts and creative teams, for an invite only audience at the end of the programme; this is designed to showcase their talents and give them the opportunity to meet and speak to more theatre professionals; people who are in a position to advise, encourage and assist them on the next step of their careers.

And so, now I've introduced it and you know a little more about the background of the programme, this blog is for them - our young playwrights - who will be documenting their year and sharing with you their discoveries.

Bunbanter's Young Playwrights Programme is created in partnership with Theatre Royal, Dumfries and funded by the The Holywood Trust. It is also kindly supported by the Playwrights' Studio, ScotlandDumfries And Galloway Arts Festival and Tesco Extra (Cookoo Bridge, Dumfries).
